Plasmons are collective longitudinal modes of charge fluctuation in metal samples excited by an external electric field. Surface plasmons (SPs) are waves that propagate along the surface of a conductor with applications in magneto-optic data storage, optics, microscopy, and catalysis. In thin films, the electronic response is influenced by electron quantum confinement. Confined electrons modify the dynamical screening processes at the film/substrate interface by introducing novel properties with potential applications and, moreover, they affect both the dispersion relation of SP frequency and the damping processes of the SP. Recent calculations indicate the emergence of acoustic surface plasmons (ASPs) in Ag thin films exhibiting quantum well states and in graphene films. The slope of the dispersion of ASP decreases with film thickness. We also discuss open issues in research on plasmonic modes in graphene/metal interfaces.

Interface effects in plasmon-enhanced second- harmonic generation from self-assembled multilayer films
We have compared the plasmonic enhancement of second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties in two types of ionic self-assembled multilayer (ISAM) films combined with Ag nanoparticles fabricated using nanosphere lithography (NSL). The light-concentrating properties of the Ag particles lead to a marked increase in the NLO efficiencies of thin ISAM films. The induced enhancement is found to be ...

متن کاملInvestigation of extinction spectra of THTS Mn thin films and comparsion with discrete dipole approximation simulation results
In this work, the extinction spectra of the nano-structure of the Tilt Helical and Stair-like Towers of Mn thin films were obtained using discrete dipole approximation (DDA) simulation for both s-and p-polarization at two incident light angles of 10°, and 60° at different azimuthal angles for the there samples with different tilt. Obtained results are compared with the experimental optical exti...

We report the enhancement of the colorimetric response of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and alkaline phosphatase (AP) in bioassays by thermally evaporated silver, gold, copper and nickel thin films. In this regard, a model bioassay based on biotin-avidin interactions was employed. Biotin groups and enzymes were introduced to all surfaces using a biotinylated linker molecule and avidin, respectiv...
